Astro Ranch. Is it the best farming app on iPad and iTouch.. I think so!?

I recently purchased two iPads. I had intended to just purchase one, but that plan fell through once my wife starting watching my play Astro Ranch and Pocket Devil. I wanted to put up some sort of review for Astro Ranch, as it is a game that is being produced by a brand new company and it isn’t recieving alot of attention as of yet.
The basic gameplay is alot like Harvest Moon. For those who haven’t played the Harvest Moon line of games I will describe it a bit for you. You are a new ranch owner. Your goal is to make your ranch as profitable as possible, while upgrading your land and completeing side quests as they appear. Now, I realize that in Montana the idea of farming in a virtual world when we do so much of it in the real world may seem like a waste of time and not much of an escape. I would argue, that because of the instant gratification or instant consquence to your choices while playing Astro Farm you are able to enjoy the long term benefits of your hard work in a small fraction of the time in real life would take.
In this game, they have also added an interesting twist with the stock market feature. Each morning, you check your computer terminal and decide what you want to plant in your fields. Value fluctuates daily so you have to be carefull what you plant and when. It adds just one more layer to an already polished game.
The graphics are 3d rendered. No sprites here! The crater you spend your time and work your ranch is well designed and open. As of 4/11/10 I had played from 8am until about 11pm and my battery still retained a 24% charge! So stunning visuals and not a battery drain, not to bad for a start up game.
At the 4.99 price point, I would say you definatly get more then you pay for. If you purchase this app, and want to add to my review please do so!
The difference between the facebook apps and the iPad/iTouch apps would be 3d rendering. Tapville, Farmville.. those type of games are flat worlds, without any real animation to them. For more of a visual gaming experiance I would have to say that Astro Ranch is still superior for at least visuals. Free isn’t always better, as you get what you pay for!
